About Me

Carlson Counseling & Psychotherapy is located on the northside of Indianapolis and throughout the State of Indiana via tele-health. We provide counseling and psychotherapy for adolescents and adults using an integrative approach to emotional wellness.

Melanie Carlson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Purdue University and Master's Degrees in Public Affairs, Liberal Arts, and Social Work from Indiana University. Melanie has more than a decade of experience in the field of behavioral health.

Melanie believes that within each person lies the capacity for emotional healing, no matter their current or prior life experiences.  Each individual's unique history, personality, struggles, and strengths are utilized as sources for personal transformation and growth.

Using a person-centered, strengths-based perspective, Melanie provides shorter-term counseling and longer-term psychotherapy. Melanie is an LGBTQI+ ally and BIPOC affirming.

Current areas of focus include those struggling with life transitions, identity, relationships, depression, anxiety, and/or trauma, as well as somatic complaints (of the body) and chronic pain, illness, or fatigue.

Melanie primarily uses emerging neuropsychological approaches in her therapeutic practice. She is EMDR-certified, a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), experienced in incorporating polyvagal theory in practice, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed.

Melanie is also certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and trained in Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) to support clients in healing from chronic pain and other physical syndromes and symptoms.

See the Therapeutic Specialties page for more information about these approaches.
